KCALC’s purpose is to identify, coordinate, promote and expand local literacy efforts; increase citizen awareness of the problem of illiteracy; and identify, recruit and tutor those adults eighteen and older in need of literacy services; identify, recruit, train, and supervise volunteer tutors; identify and secure suitable tutoring sites; and generate tax-exempt funds to develop and maintain a freestanding literacy council.
